My student gets logged out and can't take the video interview.
Where students say they have been logged out of CAS Shield when attempting to record an interview a common root cause is that students are attempting to record the interview using multiple CAS Shield sessions.
Why this happens:
This behaviour is expected and by design. CAS Shield does not allow students to record interviews using multiple sessions (e.g., multiple tabs, browsers, or devices). This is a security measure to prevent misuse, such as having the interview open in one session to read questions while answering them in another. When multiple sessions are detected, the system automatically logs the student out and records this action in the activity log of their file with the following message:
Multiple CAS Shield sessions detected: The student was automatically logged out due to the detection of multiple CAS Shield sessions.
If you want to look and see if this is reported: Check the Activity Log (link to Activity Log article). If the log indicates multiple sessions were detected, advise the student to use only one session.
You can use this snippet for communication:
Please ensure that you are only logged into CAS Shield on one device, one browser, and one tab. Before attempting to record the interview, make sure to log out of all other sessions. Multiple active sessions may cause issues with recording the interview.
If the issue persists after advising them:
You can re-check the activity log to confirm if multiple sessions are still being used. Often, students might not fully log out from all sessions despite instructions.
